Super lightweight and slim HD PENTAX-DA 40mmF2.8 Limited pancake lens
features a weight of 89g and length of only 15mm.

With a focal length of approx. 61 mm, equivalent to 35 mm full frame, this lens has been specially designed for digital SLR cameras whose image circle has been adapted to the APS-C format of the image sensor (23.5 mm × 15.7 mm) to achieve a significantly more compact and lightweight design with an excellent price-performance ratio compared to 35 mm format SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses and the same specifications.
Thanks to its mobility and handling, it is ideal for snapshots. The angle of view corresponds to the slight telephoto range and allows you to capture the desired subject from a reasonable distance.
This lens allows for comfortable photography and is ideal as a standard lens for people who are often on the go with their camera. It is very well suited for landscape photography and a variety of other subjects, while the maximum aperture of 2.8 is ideal for snapshots, portraits and indoor photography.

Impressive delineation Performance of this lens from the limited Edition series

The design is based on the numerical evaluation of high resolutions and low aberration by various testing instruments and also incorporates advanced evaluation using actual images. The result is a certain "lens flavor" that carries on the concept of the PENTAX Limited series and that enables you to enjoy impressive rendering of your digital images.

New HD coating

This lens uses the new-generation multicoating "HD Coating" that reduces the reflection rate in the visible spectrum up to 50% or more than conventional multicoating. This enables the reduction of flare and ghosting for the shooting of clear, high-contrast images even under backlighting and other adverse conditions.

Lens Hood included

In addition to a variety of features, such as our unique HD-multi-coating and the prevention of reflections in the lens barrel, a special lens hood is included with this PENTAX lens to minimise ghosting and flare that occurs in backlit and other adverse conditions. As such, the lens hood is an integral part of the optical system and should always be used when using the lens.
The total lens length does not change even if a 30.5mm filter is attached to the the hood. A 49mm filter can also be attached directly to the lens.

SP Coating
A PENTAX-original special coating that provides superior performance inrepelling water and oils. It is used on the front surface of the firsthigh-performance lens for effective protection of the lens surface. This coating not only prevents adhesion of dust, water drops, oils, and other substances, but it also makes it easy to wipe off objects that adhere to the lens.  

Round-shapeddiaphragm for beautiful out-of-focus rendition
Featuring a completely round-shaped diaphragm to optimise the performance of their distinctive optics. This diaphragm produces a natural, beautiful bokeh (out-of-focus) effect, while minimizing the streaking effect of point lightsources. 

Quick-Shift Focus System
After focusing using the autofocus, the focus ring can be turned to allow immediate focus adjustment using the manual focus. This feature enables smooth operability by eliminating the need for an AF/MF switching operation. This is useful during closeup photography, for instance ,when you want to shoot while making fine adjustments to the focus

PENTAX K Mount

The lens mounts for PENTAX interchangeable lenses are based on the bayonet K mount, which has remained unchanged since its inception in 1975. It is a mount unique to PENTAX that features a large aperture combined with superior ease of replacement, accuracy, and toughness. These features are utilized to comfortably incorporate an iris control mechanism, autofocus mechanism, and other functions for enabling nearly complete compatibility with conventional lenses. The PENTAX K Mount keeps its advanced versatility despite differences in camera and lens functions.

Amazing light sharp lens with 3D Pop

"This lens is a joy to use. It is ridiculously light, making it a great travel, streetscape lens. I have been using it for walkabouts in Porto, architectural detail, graffitti, ocean storms, etc so far but will take on trips together with the DA 70 for a light combo. I do have several other superb Pentax lenses, manual or AF, some great macro lenses, but for travelling and walkabout they are a bit too heavy. The HD DA 40 has some magic, and great colors and separation subject-background, when shot at f/4 or f/5. 6 (my favorite apertures), but is bitingly sharp after that. It is very sharp at first/2. 8, corners not being bad at all, and minimal vignetting. The round iris does make a difference from my other lenses, in well-tamed bacground light spots. Very happy with this lens, and of course, with Pentax in general."
