PENTAX KF – Redefining the basic values of SLR photography

APS-C CMOS image sensor with 24.24 effective megapixels for full imaging power

The AA filter-free design of the PENTAX KF's high-performance image sensor unit optimises resolution and delivers detailed images, while ensuring fast readout of high-gradation 14-bit image data.

It is supported by the PRIME MII imaging engine with integrated acceleration unit, which effectively suppresses noise at a maximum sensitivity of ISO 102400 and ensures a true-to-life reproduction of gradations and textures at all sensitivity levels.

Camera-shake reduction with IBIS

The sensor is also the basis for the advanced IBIS system, which ensures effective image stabilisation with all lenses (including older K-lenses). It offers a compensation effect of 4.5 shutter steps. At the same time, a built-in gyro sensor detects panning shots, while the SR unit is efficiently controlled to effortlessly minimise blurring in both normal and panning shots.

Pixel Shift Resolution System

This Pentax-original technology fully utilises the potential of the image sensor by taking advantage of the SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism. It does this by capturing four images of the same subject by shifting the image sensor by a single pixel for each frame. All the RGB colour data in each pixel is calculated to produce images with extremely high resolution, much more lifelike colours and much finer details than images captured using normal shooting processes. Images captured using this system can be saved as RAW files.

Optical glass pentaprism viewfinder

With an approximately 100% field of view and nearly 0.95-times magnification , the PENTAX KF’s viewfinder provides a large sharp view of the subject, allowing you to capture it exactly the way you want. It also facilitates manual focus operations, because it makes it easy to locate the in-focus point in the image field.er that displays the subject 1:1 without any falsification by electronics is essential.

Vari-angle LCD monitor

For many situations, the PENTAX KF's vari-angle LCD monitor is a perfect extension of the optical view-finder. It allows you to position it at any desired angle when shooting in Live View mode, enabling more interesting compositions, e.g. from different camera angles.

Ergonomic design for easy operation – even with gloves

The PENTAX KF has been designed with great attention to detail to provide optimal comfort and ease of use. The handgrip ensures a secure hold of the camera and provides easy access to the control buttons and mode dial even when wearing gloves

The control buttons have been positioned for optimal usability. The exposure compensation button has been placed next to the shutter release button so that you can easily access it without taking your eye off the viewfinder while adjusting the compensation value with the control dials.

Double control dials

Essential to the Pentax KF is fast exposure control with the original Hyper operating system. To do this, the camera has two dials that can be used to control the original Hyper operating system from PENTAX. To select the exposure mode (P), turn one of the dials to instantly switch the exposure mode to aperture priority (Av) or shutter speed priority (Tv) without taking your eyes off the subject.

A range of customisation tools

In addition to customisable buttons, the Pentax KF boasts numerous functions for influencing the image result. In addition to a selection of 19 scene modes, the camera offers the so-called ‘Custom Image’ function. For this, the camera offers a large number of different image recipes that deliver a special imaging. Based on the standard settings, parameters such as saturation, shading, tonal value, contrast and sharpness can be freely adjusted to give the images the desired finishing touch.
In addition, the camera offers a selection of many creative filters that, in addition to the ‘Custom Image’ function, provide a great deal of creative shooting fun.
Functions such as double exposure or the HDR mode, as well as Clarity Control, the option of ‘fine sharpening’ and ‘extra fine sharpening’, or the skin tone correction round off the extensive package for the perfect image.
And if you're not sure whether the selected settings are right, you can change them in-camera immediately after shooting – just like RAW development.

USER Mode 1 “CLEAR TONE”
Designed to produce a high-contrast, high-saturation image, this mode emphasizes the clarity and fresh-ness of subjects such as snowfield in the sun or a crystal-clear lake.

USER Mode 2 “HDR LANDSCAPE”
Using the clarity-enhanced Advanced HDR (A-HDR) mode and through adjustment of the Custom Image function, this mode is useful for dramatizing scenic images.

USER Mode 3 “ASTROPHOTO”
Highly useful in astronomical photography, this mode lets you capture the beautiful colors of celestial bod-ies with great ease, while minimizing the fading of black color in the background.
The optional O-GPS2 unit provides an automatic tracking function of celestial bodies in astronomical applications.

Pentax KF and packaging !

"Hi, I bought my first Pentax in . . . 1978 with the wonderful MX . This is my second KF so I know it and that's why I bought a second one. I am a fan of Pentax ! I still have to check different things on this new one. There is one thing to be improved : the packaging was awful , no protection at all just a Pentax box inside an ordinary box with a sticker in German "" Vorsicht ! Most people do not even understand the meaning even if I do. Translation is too small Cameras are fragile items as you know better than me and I was disappointed by the lack of precaution from a company like Pentax. You should really improve this at least for your image ( not a pun with a camera maker but . . . ) I feel worried for my camera even if it seem to be working. . . Good photocamera with for old lenses

"As my first DSLR, I'm pretty happy with it. I wanted a camere where I can use my old M42 lenses and has good photo quality. There is so much to discover with this camera. It is so feature rich, i have just started shooting with a DSLR."
