HD PENTAX-DA 18-50mmF4-5.6 DC WR RE - the world’s shortest interchangeable standard zoom lens.

Featuring a new retractable mechanism creating the world’s shortest length
This standard zoom lens has been developed as a compact, easy-to-use everyday lens that meets user demand for a downsized, high-resolution digital SLR imaging system. It offers a zoom ratio of approximately 2.8 times to cover the wide-angle to standard ranges for focal lengths equivalent to 27.5mm to 76.5mm in the 35mm format, which are the most frequently used ranges in general photographic applications.

Thanks to its retractable mechanism — employed for the first time in the PENTAX K-mount lens system — it provides the world’s shortest length in the stored position: just 41 millimeters — to assure outstanding portability in combination with today’s downsized digital SLR camera body.

Note: In the case of use with the models below, when the lens is retracted, the display indicating lens retraction is not shown and photographs can be taken. For the K-3 and K-S1, a firmware upgrade is necessary.

Note: With K-7、K-x、K-r、K-5Ⅱ、K-5、K-5IIs, MF will not work during Movie mode. When you use Movie mode, turn on the camera with Still mode and switch to Movie mode.

Exceptional image rendition to accommodate latest digital SLR cameras

Incorporating Anomalous Dispersion Glass elements and aspherical elements in its 11-element/eight-group optics, this lens effectively compensates various aberrations for high-contrast, high-resolution, fine-detailed images with minimal color bleeding.

Multi-layer HD Coating
Coupled with high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating*, which reduces the average reflectance in the visible ray spectrum to less than 50% that of conventional multi-layer coatings, it effectively minimizes flare and ghost images even in demanding lighting conditions such as backlighting.

* HD stands for High Definition.

Dependable weather-resistant construction

This lens features a dependable weather-resistant construction with nine special seals to effectively prevent the intrusion of water into the interior. By pairing it with a weather-resistant PENTAX digital SLR camera body, the user is assured of a durable, reliable digital imaging system that performs superbly in demanding shooting settings — even in the rain or mist, or at locations prone to water splashes or spray.

HD* Coating to improve image description
This lens is treated with the high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating.* Compared with conventional multi-layer coatings, this PENTAX-original coating assures less reflection and higher light transmittance to deliver bright, high-contrast images free of flare and ghost images, even under demanding lighting conditions such as backlight.
* HD stands for High Definition

Internal lens motor for smooth autofocus operation

A DC motor for the autofocus (AF) incorporated within the lens enables smooth autofocus operation. A non-rotating mechanism is also used for locking the focus ring during autofocus so that the lens is held in the same position as manual focus.

*The compatible models are: K-1/K-1 Mark II/K-3 Mark III/ K-3II/K-3/KP/KF/K-S2/K-S1/K-70/K-50/K-30/K-5 II/K-5IIs/K-5/K-01/K-7/K-r/K-x/K-m/K20D/K200D/K10D/K100D Super.
(Depending on the modell, the actual firmware is required)
When mounted on other camera bodies, the focus mode is automatically switched to manual.

Lens Hood  included

In addition to a variety of features, such as our unique multi-coating and the prevention of reflections in the lens barrel, a Low-profile lens hood is included with this PENTAX lens to minimise ghosting and flare that occurs in backlit and other adverse conditions. As such, the lens hood is an integral part of the optical system and should always be used when using the lens. It's designed for easy carrying without the need to remove it from the lens for storage.

Others

Quick-Shift Focus system
After focusing using the autofocus, the focus ring can be turned to allow immediate focus adjustment using the manual focus. This feature enables smooth operability by eliminating the need for an AF/MF switching operation. This is useful during closeup photography, for instance, when you want to shoot while making fine adjustments to the focus.

Rounded diaphragm
To produce a smooth, beautiful bokeh (defocus) effect, while
minimizing the streaking effect of point light sources.

PENTAX K Mount

The lens mounts for PENTAX interchangeable lenses are based on the bayonet K mount, which has remained unchanged since its inception in 1975. It is a mount unique to PENTAX that features a large aperture combined with superior ease of replacement, accuracy, and toughness. These features are utilized to comfortably incorporate an iris control mechanism, autofocus mechanism, and other functions for enabling nearly complete compatibility with conventional lenses. The PENTAX K Mount keeps its advanced versatility despite differences in camera and lens functions.
