Best optical Performance for high-quality images

This super telephoto lens includes two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) optical elements. The second and fifth lenses use ED glass, to effectively minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations, while delivering high-resolution, fine-detailed images with rich contrast from the image’s center to its edges and minimal color bleeding at any focal length setting.

The optical system uses an inner focus construction, which is supporting the high demand to the image quality and also allows a significantly more compact design.

Thanks to the FF lens aberration correction* this lens could be also used on cameras with 35 mm full-frame sensor.

Fast autofocus operation

The smc PENTAX-DA★300mm has a SDM (supersonic direct-drive motor) autofocus drive. Here, the autofocus is performed by a motor that is integrated in the lens barrel. This offers many advantages. It is easier to handle and allows a quieter, smoother and more comfortable focusing than the AF drive in the camera body.

It is also equipped with a braking mechanism that enables highly precise speed and position control.

This lens is ideal for unencumbered shooting of subjects with active movement such as sports photography. The lens includes a rotating tripod seat for enabling simple attachment and detachment.

Prepared for outdoor shooting

This lens with a high super tele lens performance, giving best opportunities for the use in the field. On Safari in a game park, in the local Zoo or in the forest nearby, you could capture wildlife with a reasonable distance between you and your motives.
Don’t care about the condition outdoor, the lens will support you, hunting your motives with your camera.
The lens components are sealed for enabling a dust-resistant and drip-proof construction that prevents the entry of water and dust into the lens.

SP Coating

SP coating is a PENTAX-original special coating that provides superior performance in repelling water and oils. It is used on the front surface of the first high-performance lens for effective protection of the lens surface. This coating not only prevents adhesion of dust, water drops, oils, and other substances, but it also makes it easy to wipe off objects that adhere to the lens.

Comparison of dirt adhesion (oil-based ink) A lens surface treated with SP Coating has a very smooth surface without the adhesion of the oil-based ink.	Comparison of wipe-off (oil-based ink)  A lens surface treated with SP Coating can be wiped clean more easily and completely, even after the ink has dried.

Other features

Quick-Shift Focus System
After focusing using the autofocus, the focus ring can be turned to allow immediate focus adjustment using the manual focus.
This feature enables smooth operability by eliminating the need for an AF/MF switching operation. This is useful during closeup photography, for instance, when you want to shoot while making fine adjustments to the focus

Lens Hood  included
In addition to a variety of features, such as our unique multi-coating and the prevention of reflections in the lens barrel, a special lens hood is included with this PENTAX lens to minimise ghosting and flare that occurs in backlit and other adverse conditions. As such, the lens hood is an integral part of the optical system and should always be used when using the lens. Most PENTAX lenses are designed so that the lens tip does not rotate when zooming and focusing to facilitate the use of circular polarising filters. This is further supported by a small window in the lower part of the aperture to allow the circular polarising filter to be operated.

PENTAX K Mount
The lens mounts for PENTAX interchangeable lenses are based on the bayonet K mount, which has remained unchanged since its inception in 1975. It is a mount unique to PENTAX that features a large aperture combined with superior ease of replacement, accuracy, and toughness. These features are utilized to comfortably incorporate an iris control mechanism, autofocus mechanism, and other functions for enabling nearly complete compatibility with conventional lenses. The PENTAX K Mount keeps its advanced versatility despite differences in camera and lens functions.
